Email with Red 'X'

Email with Red 'X'
Hello Everybody,

Whenever any of my friend sends me an email containing any picture in it, it doesn't get open on my pc. Whenever i try to click on any particular picture or image in gets open with a red 'x' mark. I don't understand why it doesn't get open on my pc. Can any one help me out to resolve this issue? Any help on it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Email with Red 'X'
If the email you are viewing contains a picture that is linked to a file on a website and the site is having a problem or offline, then you will get the red x. If you are reading email offline you will get the red x.

Your firewall settings or ad-blocking software may be causing the file to be blocked. I had this problem with animated gif files until I figured out how to fix it. My firewall seemed to think all animated files were ad files!

Whoever sent you the email with the picture may not have inserted the file properly. If this happens with only emails sent by certain senders, this is probably the problem. Send them to this page, Sending pictures in email, to learn how to send pictures!

If you are seeing that' little red x' in all emails instead of pictures, delete your Temporary Internet files.

Suggestions for a Red X appearing in email:

1. The sender has sent a link shortcut instead of an image. A red box will appear in an email if the image is not available from the web site that is hosting it.

2. A referenced image has an incorrect path and points to a non-existent image.

3. For images sent via HTML emails: it is also possible that your email program does not support HTML, and you are unable to view images that are present in the HTML code.

4. HTML emails with pictures embedded in them will only display if you are online the Internet, because the pictures are downloaded from the web site as you are reading the email.

Re: Email with Red 'X'
Here are a few possibilities:

1. The page or email you are viewing contains text (which is often cached or saved to your hard drive); however, the picture file(s) contained in the page is/are probably referenced via a web site (which requires an Internet connection). If you are offline, the red X will appear.

2. The page (or email) you are viewing contains a picture which is in fact hosted on a secondary web site, and that web site is offline. If picture cannot be referenced, the red X will appear.

3. There may be a temporary problem connecting to the web site which hosts the picture.

4. The web site hosting the picture file may have been blocked by your firewall, ad-blocking software, or Hosts file.

5. The reference to the picture is no longer valid, producing a red X, because the picture has been moved or deleted from the remote host (web site).

6. Your Internet Explorer security settings are not permitting you to access the web site which hosts the picture file. Try changing your settings to default (Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Default).

Re: Email with Red 'X'
This behavior occurs because of the new Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail security option. By default, this option is turned on in Outlook Express after you install Windows XP SP2.

Manual steps to enable Internet images in Outlook Express
To manually work around this behavior, turn off the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail option. To do this, follow these steps.

Warning :-The Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail option is a security feature that has been included in Windows XP SP2 to protect your computer against junk e-mail (spam). We recommend that you do not turn off this option.
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Outlook Express.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Security tab.
3. Click to clear the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail check box.
4. Click OK.
Hope so it may help you to resolve your issue.
