Will Rage 32-bit restricted RAM usage
Will Rage be or not be restricted? Got Fallout NV, yesterday, it was 32bit restricted. So i assume Rage will be too. Yes I know I can cause trouble, never did for me, it always "did the trick". Because I would not be able to use the 4 GB-patch-prog for Fallout NV, if a Modder wouldn’t have made an own version, which is working with Steam. Yes Steam, the platform Rage will use too. Please don’t get me wrong Steam is a good thing, but telling me how-to start a game and where I have to install it. Even if I can move the whole steam-folder to another HDD is a very bad thing. Because steam checks the exe before starting and I don’t understand why a change in a header of the exe is such a big problem. I assume there have been a lot of people before asking Steam to change that.

They said something along the lines of not shipping initially the 64-bit version, but that it could come with a patch, including the mod tools.

Re: Will Rage 32-bit restricted RAM usage
First of all - Fallout has nothing to do with Rage - they aren't the same developer - not the same house - not the same city and not the same state. But they're both part of the Zenimax Media and that's why ID is using Bethesda's logo for publishing. Second i don't even understand what this 32bit restriction is ? What restriction. You can play the game on 32bit OS or 64bit OS there's no difference.
The only thing is it's not playing in x64 mode if the game doesn't have x64 compiled executables and DLLs. Then - it's already been confirmed that there are 2 PC versions of rage - one x32 and the other x64. The x64 version of RAGE will support developer-console. x32 will not. ID studio application only has x64 executables and so you will not be able to run it on x32 OS. Essentially - hate to say it - but x32 version of Rage is a barebones PC game "console port". While the actual PC stuff is ALL and ONLY on the x64 version. An x64 bit windows is required. There is absolutely nothing that has to do about with anything like fallout or anything else at all.

I think he's referring to the fact that 32-bit applications still are under 32-bit memory limitations, eg. a 32-bit application can't use 13 GB of RAM like 64-bit (assuming the hardware supports it)

Application RAM restriction doesn't have much of relevance since you already need more than 4 GB of RAM so you need a x64 bit operating system. There is a code command that allows all x32 bit applications to use 4 GB allocated memory space. IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE. That's why you can play games which take more than 2 GB easily on an x32 bit machine. On x64 bit OS the limit is much higher, practically no limit.

One thing that you need to get is - i don't use page file - and I have 6 GB RAM in my custom machine - i hope it'll be enough. But the biggest problem for ID Studio is obviously the page file - you want to use pure RAM to compile those levels - the engine is fast but this is the requirement you need to have to make the data fast.

Re: Will Rage 32-bit restricted RAM usage
ID STUDIO does not support x32 is because ID Software choose to be that way. They made that "limitation". The program practically useless below 4 GB RAM, why even bother with x32. I have my doubts how Carmack said that - it's hard to get everything into context but now I am remembering that RAGE x32 bit version could have Dev-Console. He said "bring down the console and type id studio and see what happens" That means x32 can have dev-console but I am not taking as fact.
